Back in the saddle!
Well, it's finally official. I'm returning to what I love the most: Web Development.
After an 18 month adventure in the public-sector working within the civil service as IT support in a medium sized school district, I cannot wait to get started. I have missed the problem solving, the creativity and the ability to evaluate cutting edge technology on a regular basis. In short, all the things that go along with being a developer in a small firm.
This is not to say that I don't value the time I've been away from doing web development. It's given me some valuable perspective, as well as knowledge. I've learned quite a bit about the hardware and support side of things. Server and infrastructure management; workstation maintenance and troubleshooting; OS deployment, maintenance and customization. I was also able to spend some time improving how work was done as well, showing my co-workers how to automate processes and deploy database backed web sites to support the faculty and staff.
I've been in touch with my new employer consistently since accepting the position, and have been working to ramp up my skills to fit into the position I'm going to be filling. The project is a large one. I'm going to love it, I think.
